About the Post

We are seeking to recruit an individual to work within the student services team supporting the school mental health and wellbeing agenda. You will support the needs of a caseload of pupils who are demotivated or disengaged to overcome a range of barriers to learning.  This support is likely to include working individually with pupils, working with pupils in small groups and working with other parties/agencies including parents.

Who we are looking for

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate that they:

  • have experience of working with children of a relevant age
  • experience of working with pupils with additional needs
  • have a working knowledge of relevant policies/codes of practice and awareness of relevant legislation
  • have a working knowledge of curriculum and other relevant learning programmes
  • understand the principles of child development and learning processes and in particular, barriers to learning
  • have a developing knowledge of Local Authority, Outside Agencies, local and national organisations which can provide services and activities to support pupils and broaden and enrich their learning
  • have the ability to relate well to children and in particular to motivate children to engage in the learning process
  • have the ability to work effectively with parents/carers and a range of professionals
  • have numeracy and literacy skills equivalent to Adult Basic Skills Level 2
  • have completed or willing to complete National Learning Mentor training
