About the Post

We are seeking to appoint a Local Advisory Board (LAB) Clerk as part of the Clerking Team based in the Trust’s Core Services central provision.  The Clerk will predominantly be working with the Stourfield Infant School Education Improvement Board and the Stourfield Junior School LAB, but may be required to support any of the Trust schools and Trust Board, as required, on a flexible basis.

The LAB Clerk will be accountable to the Trust’s Governance Manager, working effectively with the Chair of the LAB, Headteachers and other LAB Members.  The Clerk will work within the guidelines of the DfE Clerking Competency Framework, providing administrative and organisational support to the LAB, guidance to the LAB in compliance with the appropriate legal and regulatory framework, advising on procedural matters whilst securing the continuity of LAB’s business, and observing confidentiality requirements.

The role could be undertaken from the Core Services offices (based at The Grange School) or from home.  The exception would be for fixed meeting dates and times, which will be either at the relevant school site or remotely via MS Teams.  Hours are, on average, six hours per week across the course of a term (three hours / week allowed per school) but the practical working arrangements will require flexibility to work more hours some weeks and less others.

Candidates should have flexibility to take on additional hours from time to time eg to support any extra-ordinary specialist panels, separate to the routine running of the LAB (these hours to be agreed in advance with the Governance Manager / relevant Headteacher).

Who we are looking for

We are looking for an outstanding individual who will relish the opportunity to:

  • Provide effective administration for meetings
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders
  • Manage information relating to LAB business and its members
  • Advise and guide the LAB
  • Advise and assist with membership (recruitment, induction and succession planning)
  • Keep up to date with current educational developments and legislation affecting school governance and participate in professional development opportunities

You are likely to be someone who has:

  • Completed the National Training Programme for Clerks to Governing Bodies (or its equivalent), or is willing to undertake this
  • Previous experience of administration, especially taking notes/minutes of meetings
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent organisation skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong literacy skills – including note taking and preparation of high quality, accurate documentation
  • Flexibility
  • Trustworthiness
