Careers Policy Statement
Twynham Learning: Provider Access Policy
This policy statement sets out the arrangements for managing the access of providers to students at both The Grange School and Twynham School for the purpose of giving them information about the provider’s education or training offer.
This complies with the school’s legal obligations under Section 42B of the Education Act 1997.
All students across Twynham Learning in Year 7 - 13 are entitled:-
- To find out about technical education qualifications and apprenticeships opportunities, as part of a careers programme which provides information on the full range of education and training options available at each transition point;
- To hear from a range of local providers about the opportunities they offer, including technical education and apprenticeships – through options events, assemblies and group discussions and taster events.
- To understand how to make applications and where to go for support to make applications for the full range of academic and technical courses.
- To access Vocational courses through the Trust in the following subjects:

(Please note that the Level 1 courses, and Level 2 Hospitality, are currently being retired and will not be available to students in the academic year 2019-2020).
Access to vocational courses is enabled through a number of events and activities, to include:-
|Choices Performance:||Year 8 Summer Term. Introduces the pathways available to get qualified.|
|DASH||Year 9 & 12 students (Dorset And South Hampshire Employability Programme)|
|Options Evening:||Year 9 Spring Term. Students and parents informed of shared courses available across Twynham Learning and local alternative provision to facilitate specific interest.|
|Progression evening||Year 10 Summer Term. Students and parents introduced to the various qualifications and levels on offer for Post 16 education.|
|Careers College||Year 10 Summer Term. Taster sessions at Weymouth College|
|Top Universities evening||Year 10 Autumn Term|
|Progression Interviews||Year 11 Spring Term 1:1 interviews with a member of leadership team|
|Careers Fair||Year 11 Autumn Term. Students introduced to local providers in school|

|Young Chamber Programme||Year 7 – 13 in partnership with Reid Steel|
|Impartial careers advice is available to all Year 9 to Year 11 students with targeted students at high risk of NEET receiving 1:1 guidance|

- Opportunities for Access
A number of events integrated into the careers programme will offer providers an opportunity to come into our schools or attend local events to speak to students and their parents/carers.
Provider literature is available in the Careers Library and is signposted through PSHE lessons, including local providers’ open evenings.
