Subject Leader for English
Full-time, permanent post (Main Scale or Upper Pay Scale with TLR 2.1) to start 1st September 2020.
Christchurch Junior School are looking for an excellent teacher with high expectations of themselves and children, outstanding classroom management skills and the ability to contribute fully to the life of the school. We are also looking for a teacher with the vision and skills to lead improvement in the teaching and learning of English across the school.
We include a job description and person specification for a class teacher which details key responsibilities of the post. In addition we include the job description and person specification for a core subject leader.
We would welcome applications from candidates who feel confident to teach in any year group within KS2. The first priority for all teachers is to provide quality first teaching to meet the needs of all children in their class. Year team members work together to shape and improve the curriculum based on the needs of the year group. Class teachers are responsible for the pastoral and academic progress of each child in their class, making use of the school’s systems for assessment and tracking pupil progress. Year groups meet weekly to share ideas, pass on relevant information and review practice. Working as a team, sharing resources and supporting each other are key to working in the year group.
The role of the English subject leader is crucial to our SDP priority to raise the quality of teaching and learning in that subject. He/she will set the agenda for managing this core curriculum subject and to drive improvements. The English subject leader is a member of the leadership team and will work alongside other senior colleagues to monitor standards. We would want our English subject leader to be someone who could lead by example in their own teaching and assessment and who could inspire and enthuse colleagues to develop their own practice. The role would include leading regular CPD and staff meetings, keeping colleagues well informed on recent initiatives and advising teachers and teaching assistants on their practice. English is currently taught in mixed ability class groups in all years.
Responsibilities of this post will also include the pastoral role of being a class teacher; working with a teaching assistant; contributing to the fuller life of the school; supporting school policies on behaviour and attendance.
