About the Post

We are looking to appoint a student services pastoral worker, with a specific focus working with students with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. This role is focused on supporting young people on the Special Educational Needs (SEN) register to enable them to learn and thrive in the classroom and the wider school community.  This support is likely to include working individually or in small groups with pupils and working with other parties/agencies including parents.

As a Student Services Worker, you will:

  • Work with selected pupils with SEMH needs, out of the classroom situation. This may include pupils excluded from or otherwise not working to a normal timetable.
  • Develop 1:1 mentoring arrangements with pupils which enable them to agree to improvement plans and targets
  • Provide support to pupils to enhance their emotional health and wellbeing
  • Challenge and motivate pupils
  • Promote and reinforce self-esteem
  • Act as a positive role model
  • Liaise with parents/carers as appropriate
  • Network with other staff, teachers, and external professionals

You are likely to be someone who:

  • has experience of working with children of a relevant age
  • hs experience of working with pupils with additional needs
  • has a working knowledge of emotional wellbeing and strategies to support
  • has a developing knowledge of Local Authority, Outside Agencies, local and national organisations which can provide services and activities to support pupils and broaden and enrich their learning
  • has the ability to relate well to children and in particular to motivate children to engage in the learning process
  • has the ability to work effectively with parents/carers and a range of professionals
  • possesses excellent communication skills
  • relishes the challenge of working in an educational environment
  • will embrace our highly supportive and professional culture
  • has a passion for mental health and wellbeing
  • will promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people in accordance with our Safeguarding and Child Protection policies.
