About the Post

We have an exciting opportunity for someone who has a passion for coaching and leading sport in a school that prides itself on its commitment to offer the very best P.E, sports and extra-curricular activities it can. 

 

We are looking to appoint a flexible and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join our expert team of educators in this 7 – 11 Junior School. 

 

The main responsibilities will be:

  • To lead PE and Games lessons; Teaching lessons from the Twynham Learning PE Curriculum
  • To provide extra-curricular sporting clubs and activities
  • Reporting to parents termly using the school’s MIS
  • To assist with inter-school sports events and fixtures; this will include driving the school minibus

(training is available for this)

  • To supervise classes during the short-term absence of their usual class or subject teacher 
  • To encourage the participation of children across the school in extra-curricular sporting clubs ensuring the offer is inclusive

 

 

This post is particularly well-suited to a candidate who has undertaken teacher training or is considering career development towards becoming a qualified teacher, and this has been the case for two previous holders of this post. The successful candidate will work closely with the Trust’s School Games Organiser & Partnership Manager who will provide mentoring/coaching and a wide range of training courses and CPD opportunities.

 

The successful applicant will be expected to teach PE/Games lessons during 5 afternoons a week between 1.00 and 3.05pm.  Normally at least two classes would be timetabled at the same time so that there would be at least one other teacher involved in the same session. At least 3 mornings a week will involve teaching gym and dance between 8:30 and 12:10. The remaining hours of the role will consist of PPA, delivering after school clubs, delivering sensory circuits or supporting sporting fixtures (on occasions these can continue until approximately 5.30pm).

 

The school has a strong commitment to extra-curricular sport, including competitive fixtures.  The school provides a wide range of after school sporting activities, run either by our own staff (teachers or teaching assistants) or by outside providers. These normally take place between 12.10 and 12.55 or between 3.05 and 4.15pm.  The PE subject leader and Sport HLTA will co-ordinate this offer.
