About the Post

We are looking to appoint a Learning Mentor and Pastoral Support Assistant to join our join our dedicated Learning Support Team at Twynham School.

This pivotal role focuses on supporting young people who have a social worker or who are care-experienced. You will play a key role in removing barriers to learning, promoting emotional wellbeing and ensuring that our most vulnerable students feel safe, understood and empowered — both in the classroom and across the wider school community. 

We are looking for an outstanding individual who will relish the opportunity to:

  • Build trusted, consistent relationships with young people 
  • Provide targeted pastoral and emotional support 
  • Work closely with teaching staff to enable students to access learning successfully 
  • Liaise with families, social workers and external professionals 
  • Advocate for students and champion their voice 
  • Help create a culture of belonging, stability and aspiration

Who we are looking for

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working with vulnerable children or young people 
  • Understands the challenges faced by care experienced students and those with social workers 
  • Is emotionally intelligent, patient and solution-focused 
  • Can remain calm, resilient and professional in challenging situations 
  • Believes in high aspirations and restorative approaches 
  • Thrives as part of a collaborative team 
  • GCSE qualifications in English and maths, minimum of a grade C required. 
  • A background in education, youth work, social care or mentoring would be desirable.
