About the Role

We are seeking to appoint an exceptional and inspirational Head of English to lead a high‑performing and well‑established English department at The Grange School. This opportunity arises following the internal promotion of our current Head of English, reflecting both the strength of the department and the culture of professional growth within our school.

The Grange School is a small, nurturing school with a strong sense of community, united by a clear moral purpose: to ensure that all pupils achieve the very best outcomes and feel valued, supported and included. English sits at the heart of this ambition. As a core subject, it plays a vital role in shaping students’ confidence, communication, critical thinking and life chances, and as Head of English, you will be central to this work.

You will be joining a department characterised by positive staff engagement, strong practice and high standards, with a team that works collaboratively and with pride in what they do. This is an opportunity to build on success, shape future direction and make a tangible difference to pupils from Year 7 through to Year 11, with the advantage of seeing the direct impact of your leadership in a smaller school setting.

The role offers strong opportunities for collaboration. You will work closely with the Heads of Maths and Science as part of a cohesive core leadership team, and benefit from close partnership and shared curriculum development with the Curriculum Team Leader for English at Twynham School. Through this federation model, English leaders enjoy professional dialogue, shared expertise and curriculum ambition, alongside the supported autonomy of a small school.

Staff morale at The Grange is high, with colleagues united around shared values and a belief that the classroom is where lives are changed. Staff voice is actively encouraged through forums and collaborative structures, creating a positive, inclusive culture where people feel heard and supported.

Inclusion is central to everything we do. We are aspirational for all learners and committed to ensuring that every young person, regardless of need or background, is supported to succeed. As head of a core department, you will have the opportunity to shape an English curriculum that is ambitious, inclusive and transformative.

This role would suit an experienced English teacher and leader who is values‑driven, collaborative and excited by the opportunity to be part of a school on a journey of continued improvement and positive change.
