About the Post

We are seeking to appoint a lunchtime supervisor to join our team of 12 lunchtime supervisors from January 2022.

The duties for this post will start at 11.45 and finish at 1.15, Monday to Friday.   (Pupils’ lunch break is between 12.10 and 12.55). Staff run a number of lunchtime activities each day to support lunchtime supervision.

Children eat their lunches in our two halls, with hot meals served in our recently built hall.  Lunch is divided into two servings.   Lunchtime supervisors are required to set up trestle tables, benches and chairs prior to the lunch break, and to clean and tidy away the furniture after children have eaten.  For this reason the post involves some lifting and handling.

The team of midday supervisors is managed by a Senior Midday Supervisor.  The team meets on a regular basis with the Headteacher to share information and concerns.

Christchurch Junior School is a large, popular community school, which caters for over 500 children aged between 7 and 11 years. The children spend four years here. The classes are organised in year groups hosting four classes each. We welcome children from all walks of life, all faiths and all abilities. The children enjoy excellent facilities in purpose built premises, which were constructed in 2001. Our facilities include a well-stocked Library and specialist teaching areas for Music and Computing. In 2010, our playing field was refurbished to a high standard. In 2011 we opened Old Building, purpose built accommodation for serving hot meals which also provides additional teaching and learning space with a suite of Music rooms. We take pride in our school’s support for music and sport, and our playing field has recently been enhanced by a non-turf cricket pitch. The school is a member of the Christchurch Learning Partnership of schools that work closely together to ensure high quality provision for all local school children

We are a member of Twynham Learning - an exciting multi-academy trust of ambitious infant, junior and secondary schools serving the local community. Its aim is to offer this generation of children, young people and those involved in their education the very best leadership, teaching and learning, professional development and support services.

Who we are looking for

The school is currently working hard to promote a positive atmosphere at lunch times and our key priority is to appoint someone who can support us with this.  The key qualities for this job are:

  • the ability to relate to children and support them in the playground context;
  • readiness to undertake some lifting and handling of tables and chairs (Manual handling training will be provided);
  • the ability to work as part of a team;
  • good communication skills;
  • a calm, patient manner;
