About the Post

We are looking to appoint a casual Tutor to join our fantastic learning support and pastoral team at The Grange School. We are looking for an experienced colleague who can plan and deliver intervention sessions in either English, Maths or Science.

This role is focused on supporting students individually or in small groups with pupils in Key Stages 3 and 4 to support their rapid progress in core subjects (English/Maths/Science). This work will likely include working with students who have Social, Emotional, Mental Health needs (SEMH) and/or special educational needs, learning difficulties and/or disabilities.

We are looking for someone who will relish the opportunity to:

  • Collaborate with school staff to identify students’ barriers to learning and support rapid academic progress.
  • To work with children outside of the classroom to support their academic development.
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people in accordance with our Safeguarding and Child Protection policies.

The Grange School is an inclusive comprehensive school aged 11-19 serving families throughout Christchurch. We have a diverse range of learners, and we are recognised for our inclusivity.

  We are looking for an outstanding individual who will relish the opportunity to:

  • Deliver targeted English, Maths, and/or Science tutoring to selected pupils in a supportive learning environment, including those not following a standard timetable
  • Build positive, trusting relationships and set high, achievable expectations.
  • Work closely with curriculum teachers to identify gaps in knowledge and skills and design effective intervention programmes to accelerate progress.
  • Plan engaging, adaptive sessions tailored to individual needs to help students thrive
  • Align sessions with school curriculum plans and schemes of work where appropriate
  • Use diagnostic tools and both formative and summative assessments to monitor progress, adjust plans, and report outcomes to teachers and senior leaders
  • Support students’ successful reintegration into mainstream lessons
  • Record attendance in line with school policy
  • Maintain a positive learning environment with strong behaviour for learning.
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and nurturing atmosphere that fosters success.
  • Motivate and challenge pupils to raise aspirations and achieve their potential
  • Act as a positive role model at all times
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people in accordance with our Safeguarding and Child Protection policies.

Who we are looking for

  • Relevant English, Maths and or Science qualifications (Minimum pass in A-level Grade C, or equivalent)
  • Have experience of working with students with SEMH, SEND, or behaviour needs
