Senior Teaching Assistant – Grade 7, £17,080 to £19,235 per annum. 37 hours per week, 39 weeks per annum (term time plus INSET days). Permanent contract.  To start September 2020 

Christchurch Junior School are looking to appoint a flexible and enthusiastic Senior Teaching Assistant to join our expert team of Teaching Assistants in this 7 – 11 Junior School. 

The main responsibilities will be:

  • to lead PE and Games lessons;
  • to provide some extra-curricular sporting clubs and activities;
  • to assist with inter-school sports events and fixtures;
  • to supervise classes during the short-term absence of their usual class or subject teacher. 
  • to act as a classroom teaching assistant to support groups of children in their learning;

This post is particularly well-suited to a candidate who is considering career development towards becoming a qualified teacher, and this has been the case for two previous holders of this post. 

The successful applicant would be expected to teach PE/Games lessons during at least 4 afternoons of the week between 1.00 and 3.05pm.  Normally at least 2 classes would be timetabled at the same time so that there would be at least one other teacher involved in the same session.

The school has a strong commitment to extra-curricular sport, including competitive fixtures.  The school provides a wide range of after school sporting activities, run either by our own staff (teachers or teaching assistants) or by outside providers. These normally take place between 12.10 and 12.55 or between 3.05 and 4.10pm.  The PE subject leader and another Senior Teaching Assistant co-ordinate this offer.

Our local school sports partnership offers regular opportunities for professional development and support.
